Elite 4-star LB signs with LSU: “That’s where I should be at”
Sam Spiegelman
It all boiled down to proximity to his home in the New Orleans area and the assurance that the coaching staff was intact.
For both LSU and Divinity, everything came together at just the right time.
“LSU felt like home,” Divinity said after signing his letter of intent on Tuesday. “They hired a new defensive coordinator (Dave Aranda) and I talked to coach (Les) Miles about his situation, about leaving, and he wants his future to be with the LSU Tigers. It depends on (athletic director Joe Alleva), and (Alleva) said he’s going to stay.
“I feel like LSU is where I should be at, and the new defensive coordinator — I like the way he runs his defense. I can’t wait to meet him and build a relationship with him.”
Timing was impeccable for LSU, as the team hired Aranda away from Wisconsin just 24 hours before Divinity committed in Orlando, Fla.
Aranda brings a true 3-4 defense to Baton Rouge, La., a scheme that perfectly fits Divinity’s skill set.
“I read up on him when I found out,” Divinity said. “He likes to use a 3-4 defense, a lot of linebackers on the field and two defensive tackles. That gets a lot of linebackers exposure and lets them spread the field. He likes a lot of speed on the field and I like that.”

Getting him on campus for the spring is HUGE. He'll be competing for a spot on the field immediately.

Kid will get a lot of PT next year, especially in Beckwith leaves.
The biggest battle Aranda and Miles have this entire offseason is getting Beckwith to return. He would be an absolute mauler and highlight reel in Aranda's defense with the constantly attacking linebackers.
Beckwith would be a national star.

I think Divinity gets the same amount of playing time whether Beckwith leaves or not. Think Divinity will start outside

I'll be more relieved when Fowler signs his LOI

Maybe.
Divinity will play a lot. Beckwith will be a household name in this defense. I am certain.

I will be ecstatic when Fowler, Thornton, and Anthony sign. But I'm also really super excited that Divinity will be on campus later this month.

Does this mean is enrolled at LSU now or why the signing of a LOI being a big deal? Can he still back out on his commitment to LSU?

It's just a relief to get a LB signed!! We haven't had one since Clifton Garret

That's why the position coaches backed by central figure (CFW, CLM). I'm not talking about "father figures". I'm talking about a comfort level that goes a long way to creating that "second home" feeling.

Nah, its definitely "I really like their academic support center and think it will help me graduate with honors to ensure I have a career outside of football"

quote:I don't know what he is actually signing here, but what we normally refer to the LOI is governed by the National Letter of Intent. Those are only valid if signed during an authorized signing period, which for football is the 1st Wed in Feb thru April 1st for high school athletes. So he is not "officially" committed, in the sense that he would be sanctioned if he backed out, until he attends a class.
