Do you see many black windows on shite homes? Buying non premium is a trash idea anyway. Upgrading a step from builders grade is nothing to feel good about. This is your opportunity where labor isn’t going to cost anything for the upgrade

Stop being a cheap POS. How much can 50% be at most 75k? Work a couple turnarounds.

That's a great idea. I should probably buy premium everything with that mindset.

Going through the same thing right now. Even though we sent color elevations to the window guy he specced white windows where they were supposed to be black.
Our neighborhood requires clad windows on the sides visible from the street but we are using custom vinyl for the rest. You can try these. LINK /

Well the builder +1 grade come with a lifetime warranty. I understand what you're saying, but I also have 100 other things that are going to cost money in this house. At some point I have to limit my spending

The plans show black exterior windows but I was quoted with white exterior windows. To go black, it's 50% more expensive and I've got a lot of windows.

Sounds racist

make sure that your window spec meets windstorm specifications [expensive] or you will pay for it in insurance cost [2-3] times for the next 20 years. color is a minor detail when purchasing impact resistant, pressure resistant, working shutters etc

You won’t find anything cheaper. Its a process to build and coat the windows. It also bumps you to SDL grids Vs internal grids. It’s also a super long lead time. Especially with the holidays you will be looking at middle of January before you see the windows.

Black windows? WTF, man. Are you some kind of third-world dictator? Just get white windows like a normal person.

Yeah plans don't mean shite when you were quoted something else. Sounds like black is a premium finish which would show in the product data.

Sounds like you fricked up.

Ok. All of the home bids I received just had a window allowance, it didn't specify the exact window. However, the color prints clearly show black exteriors. If I were the GC, I'd have at least cleared it with me.

But, like I said earlier, I don't care about fault, I'm just trying to find the best solution.

Black windows appear to the be the new thing. If I built another house, I know my wife would like to have them as opposed to white.

My concern is the sun and fading. No way that black holds up in the sun. Unless I am missing something.
