Looking for some that's cheap but won't have a bunch of rocks and miscellaneous garbage mixed in.

Home Depot had a special recently. Five large bags for $10. Not sure if it is still in effect but may be something to check into.

ETA: Check out Reliable Soil Inc. in Kenner. They are located at 725 Reverend Richard Wilson and the number is 504-467-1078. They sell garden soil and mulch in bulk if you need a lot of it.

I've dealt with them before for garden soil for some raised beds I built in my garden.

What are you mulching and do you want a certain color?

Saw that a couple of weeks ago, but it seems like I missed it.

Dark brown. I have a ton of flower beds that need re-mulching.

Lowe’s, Home Depot, and Walmart. Walmart has some really good sales on quality mulch sometimes so don’t forget to check them out.

Lowe's has a 4/$10 deal going on but when I read the comments, it appears that the brand has a bad reputation for large branches, nails, plastic toys, etc. being found within the bag.

I live in Lafayette, but thanks for the recommendation. I hadn't considered a place like that, but we have Lafayette Materials and a couple of other places to consider. Thanks.

I’ve bought regular wood mulch from Lafayette Materials before and it was perfectly fine and reasonably priced. I don’t remember if they have brown dyed mulch, but I’d be willing to bet they do.

While customers of mine serve the big boxes with packaged color enriched mulch, your best performing products will come from your local bulk supplier. In Baton Rouge area, go see the folks at Southern Mulch in Port Allen.

Be sure you don’t just get wood chips that they try to label as mulch. That’s usually the cheap stuff on sale.

Lafayette Materials on Verot is where I purchase my soil and mulch. If you have a truck bed, they will fill you up for a really good price. Unfortunately, I drive a Sonata and have to buy by the bag.

Some tree removal companies give it away. But it is just undyed woodchips.

The lowes shite sucks.

Weirdly the best wood chip mulch I have found is at Kroger. Stacked outside.

You don’t want green tree mulch. It needs to be seasoned like firewood. Old and dried.

Find a local soil and mulch company. You can usually get a yard of mulch for around 40 which equals around 13 bags of mulch. Much cheaper in the long run.

I mulch only with pine straw and buy t in the round bales. Holds up better and doesn’t put dyes into the beds.

I just did this same project last week and used the $1.97/bag “brown mulch” from Walmart. It’s cheap and came out looking good. Also a nice dark brown color.
