I currently have a 40 gallon Rheem from 2014 in my home and it's on its last leg, I believe. We are a family of four and when we first moved in, 3 of us could all bathe/shower back to back and be mostly okay but now it's to the point where my wife can't wash dishes in the sink and bathe after. I tried adjusting the settings a couple years ago but the temp settings are at 130ish on both elements and we still run out of hot water so much faster than before.

What brand should I be looking at here? I have no idea which brands are good and which are bad.

Tank - State or AO Smith and get a 50 gallon minimum.

Tankless - Takagi

You may have an element issue that you could easily fix.

I never even thought about the elements to be honest. I may replace those and see if that helps.
