Can I expect it to be a tad noisy?
We'll have it installed on concrete foundation.
Wife is getting a little whiny about neighbors' floor making noise.

Just make sure you use a good underlayment

If you are talking about the peel and stick vinyl planks on concrete, it won’t have much noise at all.

I installed vinyl plank flooring with the backing over existing linoleum and it still creaks in spots

Installed mine over terrazzo and parquet floor. Put the underlayment down and floors on top. Love these floors!

Did you put underlayment under the planks that already have the backing?

I do not understand how people are getting noise from Vinyl laminate flooring. Vinyl laminate is quieter because its softer core is noise deadening.

Most vinyl planks have the pad built on so no underlayment padding is used. The vinyl plank is pliable so it cannot be installed over additional padding. Vinyl plank is impossible to creak because it is like rubber on rubber at all the connecting joints.

Yea it’s what the manufacture recommended. Added a little price but like I said I love these floors

That bamboo vinyl plank looks great. Seriously considering installing this myself but I will need the really expensive knee pads.

I hired a dude and he knocked out over 1500 sq ft himself in less than two days.

Is vinyl laminate very different from vinyl plank???
The vinyl plank I'm looking at is only 3.2mm thick with the backing on it. That's why I was looking at a 2mm underlayment between it and the concrete slab.
Does this sound ok or not? I'm open to suggestion.

I’m somewhat confused about the requirement for the underlayment. I thought the underlayment was for those that wanted to “soften” the feel of the flooring as you walked on it.
I helped my son install vinyl plank flooring 2-3 years ago and it didn’t have the backing at that time. So he wanted to use the underlayment. But now all the vinyl planks have the backing so I thought it replaced the underlayment.

We’re getting installed today in the last stages of our whole home remodel today. It’s going to be entirely pier and beam so I’m hoping I won’t hear much but I’ll do plenty of testing.

That is thin flooring and I would need to read the manufactures install instructions. My intuition tells me that the thinner the plank is the less padding you can use because the extra padding will allow the planks to deflect as you walk across it.

What Thickness of Vinyl Plank Flooring Is Best?
Another important factor to consider in the vinyl plank vs. laminate debate: plank thickness. Vinyl plank generally measures between 2mm and 8mm thick. But again, it entirely depends on the product.

Just remember: high-traffic areas will probably benefit from thicker vinyl flooring because there’s more material to absorb impact—but it also depends on the wear layer. Our advice? Stop into a flooring store near you and chat with an expert about your specific needs.

I installed Coretec about two years ago and these are its specs. Even at 8 mm total thickness its not stiff like wood, its able to bend and twist.

Wear Layer Thickness20 mil (0.02")0.5 mm
Overall Product Thickness0.314"8 mm
Core Thickness0.256"6.5 mm
Attached UnderlaymentAttached Cork
Attached Underlayment Thickness0.059"1.5 mm

Most of it comes with a pad built in on the underside. No underlayment needed

Although it was at a flooring store but I learned today that underlayment can cause plank damage due to movement. Some floor companies will void warranty if underlayment used???

Installed 300 sq feet (out of 1700 total) yesterday and was already impressed with how quiet it was over our pier and beam.

Plenty of creaks and pops went away.

No underlay.
