UPDATED: Washing machine leaking—paging Napoleon

After several loads of laundry today my wife noticed our washer leaking significantly. From what I can tell it is coming from underneath near the front on both sides. Seems to occur during both the washing cycle and rinse cycle. Should I just ditch it and buy a speed queen? It’s a 25 year old Maytag that has been awesome so I hate to ditch it if it’s an easy fix.
ETA: thanks for the move to h&g—keep forgetting about this board
UPDATED: repairman said it was a problem with the pressure switch (I think that’s what he called it). Basically it would continue to fill and not stop at the correct water level which resulted in it overflowing. Charged me $217 for the repair/visit. Very happy to still have my washer

Funny. Your wife also asked me to call her that.

Yes runs fine and cleans fine
Only thing is water leaking on the floor
It has completed the load and no leaking now. No leaking while it was spinning at the end of the wash either

25 yrs old. damn. If your wife is younger than that, buy a new machine.

The golden age of washing machines.

If it's 25 years old, I'd replace. I'm a proud speed queen owner btw.

Sounds like the tub to pump hose. Mine did the exact same thing about a year ago. Less than $100. Not that bad a repair at all.
If I'm not mistaken, Napoleon quit doing the "paging napoleon" threads.
Guy that fixed mine said "fix it until they start talking about the transmission. They don't make them like they used to." I think Napoleon has said the same thing.

Thanks for the advice
I didn’t realize our resident repair expert took a hiatus but I definitely understand

That’s either a leaky hose (easy fix) or a water pump (easy fix). I’d hold on to that old machine if I were you. I “upgraded” and I CONSTANTLY have issues with our new Maytag.

No problem. Like I said, sounds like nothing more than a hose. It COULD be the pump motor, but that's not too bad either. I'd fix it.

In investigating the source of the leak, make sure you check the drain pipe. When we replaced our crappy, overpriced HE washer with a Speed Queen, we found that the drain line was partially clogged, causing what looked like a washer leak to come up through the floor drain. I ran a 100 foot power snake through the line and no more “leak.” Talked to a plumber friend who said that because the modern washers run so little water through the line, the fibers and detergent never really get washed out to the main.
If you go with the Speed Queen, just know that those machines use water to clean clothes. I know, actually using water is a radical idea these days. The drain line has to be clear when you install, but it will stay clear. It’s a fact that using water cleans your clothes a hell of a lot better than the fairy dust used by modern washers.

Thanks
I’ve got a repair man coming out this morning to take a look. I’ll post an update once I know something.

That's the right call. We have a maytag set we bought on February 15th, 1992 for $750 for the pair (it was a return by a woman who decided she did not like the color but that benefited my to the tune of about $250 IIRC ) . I've spent probably less than $1000 on total maintenance and repairs on them.
Bottom line, if you are satisfied with the performance of an older washer/drier, it typically pays to repair rather than replace in the current market.

Who the heck sees your washing machine? What's it got to match? The other stuff in the basement or laundry room? The spare fridge?

Should have seen my face when the sales guy told me that
He had a smirk on his face as well. Got me a discount. The really ironic thing is she actually ordered it that color, almond. Good neutral color, nobody sees it. WTF but thanks.
