Anyone have a lead on a repairman for a Whirlpool Ice Maker? I feel like it might be beyond my capabilities.

What's the issue? Maybe we can help. But not in your area sorry.

I can’t really tell. I run the diagnostic test and I have no clue how to tell what’s the issue.

Is it not making ice? Not coming on at all?

It’s not making ice. It’s running I’m seeing water moving around, compressor kicking on, etc. it just never freezes the water to drop through the grating.

There’s a couple common and very easy fixes. Others not so much. The bin sensors for example go bad and are like $15 and an easy one plug fix right in the front door.

Does your machine have 4 buttons or 3. If it has 4 the 7th test should show the evaporator completely freezing. If it doesn't you have big problems with the compressor running!! I suggest if you need a replacement get the kitchenaid as they come with a complete 3 yr warranty and 5 yr warranty on the sealed system.

If you get it to test 7 and your compressor is running without a freezing plate inside of the ice machine, you either have lost your freon or lost compression function inside of the compressor. Either one will likely cost 500 to 700 to repair.

I called Stantons and they can look at it for $65. Might go that route to see what I’m dealing with.

This is an a-hole thing to post, but I don’t have a recommendation other than don’t have an under counter ice maker. We have had two in our house for the last 8 years and each of them has been serviced every year. I love having unlimited ice for parties and for all of our girls but FML they are endless money pits.

I’m all for getting rid of it but that presents two issues:
1. What do we do with that space under the counter where it is? We have a beverage fridge already for beer/bottled water/etc but I guess we could do a wine fridge where the ice maker is
2. We have a Samsung fridge and the ice maker in those things are not very dependable. Constantly freezes up. We got comfortable turning it of and strictly using the the stand alone ice maker.

It's all about water quality with these machines. I've had one for 12 years and have only repaired it once or twice. Water softeners help in hard water areas but they also have to be properly set and maintained!!!

Nah, this is mostly a fallacy. It helps certainly.
Water quality has nothing to do with the compressor, bin detector switch, etc.
Fwiw, if you don’t want ‘clear ice’ you can get a freezer style ice maker for under the counter for about $800 (half price). They are slower, ice isn’t as good, etc but a lot cheaper, easier to fix, and more bullet proof.

Agree about the myriad of issues with undercounted ice makers. My previous house we took ours out and had a cabinet maker install a pull out drawer that held a trash can and a matching can for recycling. A great fix.
Then I read this:
Prayers sent. The biggest $3000 POS ever created. One ice maker repair under extended warranty, and it’s back to freezing over weekly again. Have had two repairmen tell me it is a fatal design flaw to have the ice maker in the refrigerator and it will never be right. There’s a 50K+ Samsuck Facebook group that provides pointers on how to get them to payout (Class Action lawsuit in NJ against them).

They looked at both my icemaker and wine fridge. Wine Fridge (came with the house we recently bought) wasn't cooling but it wasn't a proper under the counter fridge with sufficient ventilation, per the repairman. He was correct after doing my own research.
Icemaker had no power. Wound up being the outlet itself under the sink. Was tied to the garbage disposal.
The repairman, Ensley, spent about an hour and a half looking at both including cleanout out all the dust on the vents, etc... He said he technically didn't fix anything so he didn't want to charge me but would take anything I thought was fair. I think we gave him $150. Even though they didn't technically do a repair, they seemed very honest and their reviews were all positive.

I called Samsung and they are sending someone out for free to look at it. I’d love to get some sort of payment for it and get a different brand fridge

you don't understand what you are talking about!!!! lime and scale definitely deteriorate the stainless steel evaporator quickly. I've seen it completely ruin the nickle plating in under 2 yrs.
