I have an 18' car hauler that has boards that could use some treating.

Used motor oil, Thompson's or exterior paint?

We used to always use diesel mixed with used diesel engine oil. Seemed to work very well and was a way to get rid of old tractor oil. Treated every year. Really nasty shite though.

I'll third that.

We use to mix it and apply it with a old pump sprayer. We also always did it middle of summer, directly in sun. I guess this was so to say to "bake" it on.

I’ve always used boiled linseed oil.

this was our "go to" for treating any exposed wood, but we just used used automotive motor oil

Yep. Dollar mops.

Put in sun for a week.

Degrease it in the shade. Done.

What ratio of diesel to motor oil, 1/2 & 1/2?

You mean covered like in a shop for a week? I'm not sure what you're trying to say there.

we went somewhere around 1/4 to 1/3rd oil to diesel, any more then that and it didnt all soak in and left a slippery film on top

Bout 2 seconds of a squirt of diesel in 3 gallons of oil and an old towel on the end of a stick in the beating sun in August was my exact technique.

make sure its nice and dry all the way through so it soaks in to the core. if its even a little damp it will all stay just on the surface. best if it sits in hot dry sunshine for a few days at least

Thanks,
I’ll have to keep checking the long range forecasts when it gets hotter.
Heat won’t be a problem in SE Louisiana, a long dry spell is the problem,

Does it take more than one coat?
