Too much rain after pre emergent?
I’m in the Little Rock area and after this cold snap before temps get going for Spring want to get my pre emergent down. Using Anderson’s Barricade (prodiamine). I know it needs to be watered in afterwards but is there a point where the soil is too saturated. Soil is wet due to our snow, was thinking of getting preemergent down Thursday before almost a full week of rain forecasted. Is there a point where there’s too much rain/soil saturated where it decreases effectiveness?

This is how pre-emergent herbicides function

“ When a preemergence herbicide is applied to the turf and properly watered in, the chemical moves down through the turf and thatch where it comes in contact with the soil. The herbicide then becomes tightly bound to the soil particles in the upper soil surface where the majority of weed seeds germinate. As these weed seeds germinate, they come in contact with the herbicide-affected soil, which inhibits the growth of the shoots or roots, eventually killing the susceptible weed. Naturally, the success of the preemergence herbicide application depends on applying the chemical prior to germination. What is less obvious is the fate of the herbicide after application.”. LINK

So once the herbicide is bound to soil particles unless those soil particles are washed way with future rain, very unlikely in established turf, i wouldn’t think you should have an issue with applying it now.

I came to post what Craw said. It will not wash away. Prodiamine settles about 1/2 in the soil. At that point it will not go any where. Microbial degradation is typically how a pre emergent breakdowns. The better the soil the faster it breaks down. Sucks but that is how it happens.

This spring is my first time for using that as well.

On a slope you might run into issues.
