Searched but it's been a while since this has been discussed. Wondering about the like gutter guard from home Depot or leaf filter, both which use the fine mesh systems.

Otherwise I am going to just start hiring someone to clean these out. I can barely reach some with a 27 foot ladder.

I always figured the guards will eventually clog up,too, and need to be cleaned out.

They still need to be cleaned out 1-2x a year. Worth it IMO

This. Crap will pile up on top of the guards and you'll still need to get up there and pull limbs and crap down that will still cause debris to pile up.

They do help in that you don't have to go digging into the gutter itself but pine needles pile up quickly.

I get on my roof with my leaf blower to clean them out. It’s a lot easier than moving a ladder every 6ft.

Exactly what I do. Whole house done in 10-15 minutes. My pitch is pretty tame so easy to walk around safely.

$35 - I don't get on the roof. Just put on the end of my Stihl BackPack blower. 15 minute job.

We have had guards on for 15 years and the gutters have been absolutely clean. When we recently repainted to guy reinstalling the gutters told me he wished they still made them like mine with coarse and then fine mess on top so there is that.

I would evaluate whether the gutters were necessary.

This is how I do it. I also carry one of these to get the pine cones or small sticks that wont blow out easy.

I took my gutters down to paint the house. Never did put them back up and I don't miss them.

It’s crazy to think about living in Louisiana and not having a gutter system...

Exactly. Gutters exist to channel water away from the house to avoid water damage around the foundation and other problems.

Why would you remove something like that because you don't like having to fish leaves out?

Depending on grading, soil composition, foundation type, and roof overhang, it may not be a bad decision. But you better be really sure that you meet all the requirements or it will be a costly mistake

my dad pulled them off our house years ago and then we had all kinds of issues with flooding where the concrete patio meets the threhold in front of the french doors going into the house and the fascia(sp?) around the house that used to be behind the gutters all rotted.

the rain used to overrun the gutters in front of the patio in the past during heavy rains but removing the gutter entirely means EVERY time it rains water starts to pool in front of the doors and starts to leak inside onto the terrazzo.

bad decision.

Yea, sounds like grading or not enough overhang. Like I said, has to be specific conditions to get rid of them.

I've got several houses in my neighborhood without, but we are all graded well, and the ones that don't only have roof lines about 10' off the ground

No gutters is a good way to end up with foundation issues, water flowing back under your house, mold growing under your house, etc.
