I’m going to do mine this weekend
My Dad said it’s too early but I don’t think we will have enough cool nights to make a difference

If you're in La. then feel free to plant them and any other pepper you want to put in the ground. We will definitely have no more cold weather and most peppers produce better in hot weather, especially the hot varieties. So, get them in now and let them get a good start to be nice and healthy when the hot weather hits.
It's been my experience that hot peppers don't do squat until it gets into the upper 80's and above. I've had great success in July, August and September with my super hots.

From the recommendations of older, experienced horticulturalists at Cleggs Nursery in Baton Rouge (they co-host a radio gardening program on Sat AMs), they say traditional bell peppers can be planted on the same schedule as tomatoes, they tolerate “cooler weather”, but better wait longer, maybe as much as 30 days, to plant true hot peppers which thrive in warmer weather.

You do realize red bell peppers start out as green peppers and as they go to red they will generally go yellow, orange then red.
The reason those color peppers are much higher in the stores than green bell peppers is the amount of extra time it takes to reach those stages. Plus they are generally sweeter than the green peppers.
