Thinking about removing St. Augustine from my back yard in NOLA.
I received a quote for artificial and I'm strongly considering it but I like the idea of natural grass.

What's the easiest to maintain/treat for weeds, etc?

This is what I'm looking at:

SYNaugustine X47

I was quoted $6500 for about 500 sq ft.

Just pay for a service to come treat your yard for you...it will get rid of the weeds and be much cheaper...
Also if sell your home grass is prefered...
You will take a hit on the price if you put down anything artificial

I was curious about this but it looks incredible.. drains easily, pet friendly, etc..

I looked into artificial turf but ultimately decided against it. A few things to keep in mind though.

Weeds can still grow through the seams and water drainage ports. Also leaves will stand out much more on the turf and will need to be removed. While turf is considered “pet friendly”, it will not break down and will need to be picked up. Ultimately I would only do turf if you have a very small backyard and no pets.

St Aug has its issues but if you can get it thick and healthy then that is the best form of weed control. $6500 for 500 square feet is insane. You could just resod your backyard with real St Aug every year for 13 years and not worry about fert or insect control or disease control.

Agreed but there's also less maintenance required during the year (cutting, fertilizing, etc).. If you were re-sodding, what type of grass would you choose?

Full sun? Tif bermuda. Fert the shite out of it. Buy Celsius and Specticle. Buy a reel mower that can cut to 1/2 inch. Mow your 500 square feet every 3rd day. If this was the OT then i'd say.....???????. Profit.

Ha. Mowing every 3rd day is kinda what I’m trying to avoid

A sharp reel mower on 500 sq feet every 3rd day is 5-7 minutes.

Buddy of mine in Vegas had this in his back yard. Looked and felt really good. He moved a short time later. I’m curious to know how well and how long it holds up.

They offer an 8 year warranty. I'm curious as well.

I might just put a pool in instead for that price.

yes, but I'd enjoy the pool 10X more than the turf.
