Anybody give me some direction on this?

So I bought a seed potato, cut it up and planted it in buckets. I planted it somewhat low in the bucket with mounding it up as the summer goes in mind.

It has sprouted and is growing decently. No flowers yet.

When do I start mounding it up (adding soil to the bucket)?

I've always waited until they were a foot tall then covered up half. Rinse and repeat.

It has worked well for me in the past.

Have we had too much rain and too little warm weather?

Sorry this post is so long. Here's a full update:

Finally got a chance to cut the grass and get some updated pictures... Creole tomatoes are doing awesome along with the San Marzanos. Big Beef aren't doing bad in their own rite. Peppers are goners after this last week of rain

Contender beans are about done and Kentucky Wonders are just starting to make.

Zucchini's are going at it, picked the 4th one today, but have some blossom end rot on a few small ones. Winter squash is getting vigorous.

Eggplants are doing really well now that it warmed up. Carrots are looking and tasting good, but need about another month.

Picked about 12 pounds of blackberries so far. Mrs. Boo is making a black berry crisp and hopefully a pie, and I'll be using about 5 pounds to make some wine. All berries going forward will be used for jams.

Could be. Sometimes it just be like that. We had probably 15 inches of rain over 2 weeks here.

My peppers were struggling hard after all the rain but they’ve rebounded well. My raised bed is on a high spot in my yard though so it drains really well. I attribute that for everything not getting totally wrecked with all the water. Everything above ground or in pots didn’t seem to have too many issues at all.

Thanks, gumbo. It appears I have a lot to learn about eggplant!

I'm planning to grill, smoke some for baba ghanoush, fry for eggplant parm, and broil with some miso sauce.

My tomatoes looked great until all the rain last week. Now I'm getting yellow leaves at the bottom. I'm hoping the peroxide treatments I did help with that.

Idk if it's just in my head but I feel like we have had a pretty mild Spring so far. I would think once it starts heating up, we see the peppers do much better. I have picked some but the plants are still pretty small.

What have you been fertilizing with?

Haven't been using anything, never really have. Did use some regular miracle gro veg food when planted, but just a sprinkling. Going to go get some compost to add around them today, hopefully see some help in a couple weeks.

Yikes. Hopefully they rebound. I'd wait and see. You never know.

I felt that way pretty much all of April. But even with all the rain the past couple of weeks mine seems to be doing great. Everything is really taking off. I'm about to be super busy with canning and preserving. Maybe I just got lucky.

The only thing I did different this year was using a lot less nitrogen. I did a lot of reading on disease control and nutrient deficiency. Seems pushing growth with too much nitrogen can often cause other problems. I used fish emulsion weekly at first (5-1-1), and then when everything started flowering and fruiting I switched to Sea Grow flower and bloom (4-26-26) and CAL-MAG+ (2-0-0) weekly. Once I started with the Sea Grow and CAL-MAG+, it seemed like the garden just exploded. Maybe it's the fertilizer, maybe conditions just all of a sudden became favorable for growth, maybe a combination of both. I'm just gonna roll with it.

Also, if it's a short season variety, it will only produce taters up to the green line, where the plant first sprouts.

How many blackberry bushes do you have? I only have 3. But I’m thinking I’m going to have to get a lot more. Those prime-arks are delicious.

You can take a cane that’s close to the ground and throw some compost over it maybe even put a brick on it to keep it in contact with the soil. It will take root by the fall, you can cut it and it will be a new plant so you don’t have to buy anymore. Trust me I’ve done it. You can do the same with hydrangeas, fig trees and I’m sure many different plants.

I’m doing mine like it’s described in this video this years. Pretty genius.

That’s good stuff. I’ll keep that in mind for if I can ever use that in the future.

Looks like a few of my beefmasters are finally at breaker stage. And as crack resistant as they’ve been, I guess the it was just too much rain last week. But I’ve had tomatoes crack way worse than these, so I’m not going to complain.

These Sweet Red Marconis need to start turning red already. I’m ready to put them on the grill.

Jalapeños are loaded. I have 4 plants that look similar. I don’t know what I’m going to do with all of them.

Shooting Stars eggplant. It was 5” long and apparently that’s supposed to be about how big they get. I harvested this one today.

Roma’s

Cucumbers (Dasher II)

Are these yard long beans going to beef up? I can’t imagine they’ll stay that thin.

Pickings from the last couple of days.

The yard longs will beef up, but I always pick mine before they beef up too much because they get seedy. And the more you pick, the more they make.

With the jalapenos, you could make jalapeno poppers and freeze them for football season snacks.

Anytime I have frozen jalapenos they came out very soft when thawed.

Ever thought of making jalapeño powder? I’ve never heard of anyone making any, usually just cayenne.

I did that last year. Didn't really find much use for it. But I may dehydrate some slices. I also plan on pickling a whole bunch. I eat the hell out of some pickled jalapeño slices on different things. Fajitas, hot dogs, taco salad, just to name a few.

I may see if some of my neighbors and coworkers want some, too.
