My very Cajun Catholic maw maw, which is where my green thumb comes from, taught me this at a very young age. I don’t break the ground on Good Friday, but it doesn’t bother me if other people do it.

I do not envy you. I’m tropical. No way I’d live there.

Do you know what the range values are for optimal, very low, low, etc. ?

It depends on what you’re growing. Your pH should be about 6.5 for most veggies. You’ll have to add some lime. St Aug likes it around neutral to slightly acidic.

The rest I wouldn’t worry about.

I bottomed out at 42.1. Everything but cucumbers should be fine.

Very briefly touched 37 here. Total time under 40 was less than 3 hours. No frost.

I had put some extra pine straw around my bean and cucumber seedlings. If I lose them, oh well. I'll sow some more. But everything else will be fine.

I’d just be pissed for losing the cucumbers because I had my first 2-3 getting decent size.

At 42 they should be fine. They may show some signs of stress, but I doubt they die.

Got down to 34 here. Supposed to be 33 tonight.

Covered my beans and cilantro, so hopefully they'll do ok.

Not really worried about my lettuces, radishes, mustard greens, etc.

Well everything in the garden looks greats. The cucumbers look like they’ve grown some. The beans look fine. I even have some okra sprouting. With the temps bottoming out at 37 last night, I’m sure everything will be able to handle tonight’s low of 42 just fine.

The pecan trees along the fence line behind my house started budding earlier this week. We’re in the clear!

My husband made me a bunch of plant protectors out of clear, corrugated PVC roofing panel strips. They are 8" tall and about 6 - 8" in diameter. Then I put on a "roof" of clear plastic plates on top of them held down by a rock. It keeps my seedlings safe from bad temps and wind and rain and cut worms. I have used the crap out of those things for years. Best thing ever.

We didn’t get those temps here in SE Texas. Daughter helped me this morning construct the cucumber trellis out of a 16 ft long hog panel. 50 Parisian gherkin seeds into the ground for that. Okra got planted and all the potatoes got hilled. Need a little of Mother Nature’s rain over here. Weather folks are saying we may hit 90 degrees next weekend. 6 weeks ago it was like 2 degrees. Nuts.

Removed tarp from my 2 beds yesterday. Had covered them up in case of a frost. I must have suffocated them. They’re all dead. Pretty defeated about this
