Cost of operation is cheaper, but it takes 12-15 years to recoup the additional cost versus a tank setup. Have had tankless in my last 4 houses. All new builds though so the cost was not a big deal. Don't do it to save money. Do it if you want endless hot water while you shower when your wife had the dishwasher and laundry going after she and your daughter took long showers.
