Wife and I are thinking of putting in surround sound in our living room. We already have the receiver, front speakers and subwoofer...but we were thinking of wiring in two additional speakers behind us and mounted near the ceiling. Problem is: It's not wired for sound and the 2nd floor gameroom/office is right over that area...so the joists are actually LVLs.

I'm thinking I'll either contract it out or go wireless, however I don't know what the frequency response/latency with wireless surround speakers are and wanted to see what the H&G board had to say about their setups.

Also, right now we are using a sound bar just because we got it with the TV however if there is heavy bass music playing on the show with the characters talking (or mumbling) it makes it hard to hear. Tried all settings..no joy. It's like this LG Soundbar doesn't have good mid range response....Any ideas on that if I decide not to do the surround sound?

Ideally you'd get it wired for sound as opposed to wireless speakers (which you'd need to find a place to plug in anyway, so you'll be digging around in at least 1 wall anyway.)

I'm not sure what kind of success or satisfaction people have with wireless as part of a hybrid system. I've always used hard wired speakers.

Run the wires underneath baseboard and the up wall?

Wireless speakers still need power. I’d figure out how to get speaker wire back there.

Great idea...but there's no baseboard on part of that run...both ways. A bad thing about "open floor plans"...wide open (15') of entry way between TV and back wall...on both sides...I thought about that too.

Is there carpet? You can get flat speaker wire and run it under carpet. Can you post a pic of the wall(s) and floor where you want to get wire to?

Hardwoods. Glued to concrete.

I think I'm gonna have to contract this one out.

I really like my Samsung N950. All wireless so all you need to do is run new outlets for power for the rears if you want them wall mounted.

Elegant.
