Have a Bermuda/centipede mix lawn (Northshore). Sprayed a Celcius/Sedgehammer mix a few weeks ago that torched almost all the weeds. However, seems the spurge is exploding. Checked MSM label and it looks like it has a temperature limitation of 85 degrees. Any other options I can use in this godforsaken heat?

Even though the MSM Turf label has a 85 F temperature restriction you can safely spray it at higher temperatures at least into the low 90’s. You will some temporary yellowing of the turf grasses at temps exceeding 85 F (maybe the reason for the restriction of 85 F on the label) but the lawn grasses will recover provided you don’t over-spray. I, and many others, have done this for years without issue.

Great, appreciate the response. Just didn't want to nuke the grass also. I'll mix on the lower end and see how it goes.

Just too add, I was told by professional degreed turf specialist with the LSU AgCenter it was safe to use at the higher temperatures before I attempted it. It’s wise to use the lower end recommended rate for spotted spurge in this heat.

Isn’t 2-4-D labeled for spurge?

My understanding from the literature is that 2,4-D or combination herbicides like Trimec containing 2,4-D are not effective on mature spotted spurge. But that said 2,4-D application would damage or kill desirable lawn grasses in this heat (> 85 F), and is why you don’t see recommendations for herbicides containing 2,4-D for lawn weed control for summer use, at least in the Deep South.

Im in for these answers, Ive somewhat contained VBW, but spurge is the devil.

I think I soaked a plant with Celsius and it just laughed at me.

Ill have to get some msm turf.

Spurge is becoming herbicide resistant. That and poa are showing signs of overcoming almost all herbicides on the market.
