Anyone have one and willing to share your experience? About to put on a new roof and might be willing to shell out the extra expense for a permanent fix. It would look great on my house and we are going to be here for at least 30 years.

TIA

real slate? Or faux slate?
Real slate, will cost from 100.00 125.00 a ² foot with materials and labor. Good luck finding a qualified installer in the south

Beware of the weight of a real slate roof. Your shingle roof trusses are not designed to support that weight.

This

Slate will require you to have 2x8 rafters opposed to the typical 2x6 or 2x4 roof truss

Also, there are plenty of qualified slate contractors in Louisiana.

Look into Atlas Storm Master slate. It’s a shingle designed to look like slate. Then let me know when we can sign you up haha

Along these lines, anyone know much about arrowline enhanced metal/faux slate roofing and whether the durability matches the price ? Rough estimate ~$260/sq for materials. I think they look cool. I can’t imagine they’re really worth it.

They are typically on multi million dollar mansions. That’s my experience

I have an old slate tile with a pencil sketch of Bourbon street on it. I can't imagine using such an unforgiving non flexing item for a roof.

Great to look at, but slate & clay tiles belong on somebody's roof besides mine.
