Shower diverter valve leaking
I have an older 3 valve shower (hot, cold, diverter)where the water lines come into the hot/cold side and then is diverted with the valve. I was having issues with the hot side leaking down the stem and the diverter leaking, sending water through the shower head when set to the faucet. After trying a few different things, I just decided to replace both valves and seats. Since then, the hot side is fine now but I still have water seeping up to the shower head and spraying out while set to the faucet.

has anyone had this issue before? Could it be the actual rough in valve inside the wall that's going bad?

There are some rubber orings in the valve itself. If you know the make, you can order a complete new insert valve stem. That just screws into the valve itself.

The issue will be getting into the wall. It’s an old tiled bathroom so I’d have to go through the wall behind it which I’d rather not do.

No, you replace the stem from the front. Google or youtube on how to remove a valve stem.

Unless i'm missing something, that's what I already did. I replaced both valves on the diverter and hot side. Is that what you are referring to because every youtube video references how to replaces the valves which I already did.

I had the same problem at a rental property. Replaced stems, seats, & o-rings and it still leaked out the faucet and diverter. Gave up and called a plumber. He fixed it from the front.

Did you set the two limit arms right? If those are off a little, water will leak thru.

I was with you until this. What are the limit arms. Maybe i've seen them but haven't heard it by this term before

The limit arms just set the valve stem to center. You can adjust them to were you have more hot or more cold water when turning on the water. They are brass and slip on the stem.

I think I have a stem. I will check tomorrow and take a picture or two.

Do you know the maker of the valve?

Here you go OP. Those two limit arms are brass. A oring holds them in place. By removing the oring, those arms can be removed and reset to limit the amount of hot or cold water passes thru.

I think we may be talking different things. I have a 3 valve and they look like this. I think your image is off a single blend valve on newer showers, right?

re: Shower diverter valve leaking
Yes. You should be able to replace that part. Check some plumbing houses.
