Last year I got the Broadcast Spreader.

I thought it would be simple, use it with Scott's products, and I don't have to do math in my garage. Just put in what I'm spreading, set it to the number on my bag.

Instructions are walk at a "brisk" pace in lines about 5 feet apart.

I first did this last year with Scott's Turf Builder. There were clear stripes that got alot more fertilizer. The second feeding last year, I tried to walk at a "brisker" pace for more slinging action. Same result.

This year, I put out my first feeding about 2 weeks ago. I tried walking in less linear patterns, and did more of a cross-hatch style of spreading. Same result, except it's zig zag of super green.

My conclusion- Use the Drop Spreader so it is equally distributed everywhere, even though it is more back-and-forth.

You realize you need to see where the edge is being laid and have some overlap correct?

Yep.

The stripes are only about 3 feet wide but the broadcast appears to be about 3 feet in both directions when walking it, to the naked eye. But obviously it's not distributing as equally. It is clearly distributing much heavier in the direct walking path. And yes, I "slightly overlapped" as instructed.

And yes, that's with the "Edge Guard" in the "Off" position.

same broadcaster. 32% Nitrogen. evenly green grass. you're doing something wrong or have two different grass types that are causing the uneven color.
