Now that spring has sprung in South Louisiana and the yards are starting to turn green, I have noticed that I have a number of areas in my yard that have these "rings" in the St. Aug grass. Any ideas of what this is or what causes it?

Thanks

My mom had a dying circle in a few pieces of sod out of an entire pallet. I figured it was a gas leak or something, so I dug it up. Nothing was under there, and the ring went away a couple of weeks later

Usually chinch bugs brah. They typically eat their way outwards in a circle.

Common in st aug. I think the local extension office said it is some sort of worm. I’ve never dealt with it so I’m not 100% sure.

More than likely a fungus. Usually if you get those rings then it means there is a fungus of some sort. Bug damage rarely makes a perfect circle.

Brown patch. Treat with approved fungicide.

Fungus, brown patch. Better spray or you will be replacing your grass.

You can spray yourself, might need a few applications.

Brown patch. Too early for chinch bugs. Very typical brown patch. Use lawn fungicide, granules preferred, the less water the better as it is cool damp nights that bring out brown patch.

And watering at night. Sprinklers should run between 4-6 am.

I had Brown Patch at my old yard....and I got it by over fertilizing and watering at night

Not sure what happened this time

I’m asking this because you implied you may have recently moved and aren’t familiar with the new yard yet.

Does your yard have good drainage? You could be having water pooling in low spots, causing the extended moisture that can cause brown patch. I used to have issues with it all the time in my backyard because a low spot would stay wet too long.
