In the market for a new zero turn. Nothing huge . Like around a 48 inch cut. Looked at skag, big dog and bad boy. What the best kind? What you all you guys have and do you recommend it. Want something we’ll built . Thanks guys

Hustler and Gravely are two others to look at.
I'm in the market for one as well, although slightly larger (60").
I'm leaning to the Hustler myself. I have 4 acres and am considering the Hustler Fastrack. My dad has one and it's well built and serviceable.

Yea I don’t have that much to cut. My dad has a scag and it’s extremely well built. But it’s more expensive than the other two that I have looked at .

I got a Snapper ztr a couple of years ago and love it.
Easy maintenance and the dealer is right here in town and they have a service department

One thing to keep in mind....its harder to drink beer when you have to use both hands to drive...

I have had a Toro for almost 7 years and it has been awesome. I cut grass commercially in college and it was hard to go to a toro after using a scag for so many years, but i couldn't justify buying a scag for residential use 25 minutes a week to cut my grass

Just purchased a Gravely ProTurn 48 off of FB Marketplace.
It only had 100 hours and paid less than half price of a new one.

I'm on my third year using a kubota commercial model and love it. Before I had a commercial Xmark for 11 years and it preformed flawlessly.
The only reason I didn't buy another Xmark, the local dealer went out of business.
I've heard nothing but good things about bad boy mowers.

Might want to look into stand-up machines. Biggest problem area with residential mowers, of any type, is the hydrostatic drive. Most residential machines, regardless of brand, use the same light-duty Hydro-Gear drives that are only good for small, flat, uncomplicated yards. Doesn't matter the HP of the engine or how the deck/frame is made, a light-duty drive (especially a maintenance-free one) has a limited lifespan. Really have to go look at the individual machines and take notes on the parts, some machines advertise like they are heavier-duty but have junk parts, others are residential units but have entry-level commercial-grade hardware.

Don't focus so much on the brand. Deck material and engine are the two most important things IMO. I'd try to get one with an aluminum deck and a kawasaki/honda engine. Narrow it down to those and then see which one is the best bang for your buck with whatever additional bells and whistles you prefer.

We have a little over 1/2 acre (.66) and just picked up a Hustler Dash 42" I believe. Runs good and sturdy!

I’ve had a 48” residential gravely for 5 years now with no mechanical issues at all. My dog chewed up some wires on it earlier this year so i bought a older commercial toro until I could fix the gravely. The Toro cuts well and is obviously faster than the gravely. Now that I fixed the gravely, I don’t know which one to keep. They’re both good mowers.
I had a commercial John Deere several years ago. It was a beast.
I also had a 60” swisher. If anyone tries to sell you one, turn and run away. It was the biggest piece of junk that I’ve ever purchased. It consistently went through sealed bearings, spindles and belts. It was absolute garbage.
