Had the ground in the backyard brought up to meet the new fence. Guys did a really good job. I’m going to grab some rye this weekend and broadcast it.

What other seed should put out for spring?

Also, how much shade do you have?

I live in SWLA. I lost all of my trees save one shitty sweet gum to the storms, so zero shade. I lost a lot of ground and had to bring in a good bit of dirt. There is no grass in my yard now. It’s just top soil.

Also, is there a calculator online for how much seed per square footage? The back yard is a 1/4-1/3 acre.

Different grass types require different lbs/1000 sqft.

Down here you can't go wrong with bermuda or zoysia.

I went with a hybrid bermuda when seeding my yard. Specifically princess 77 which is replaced by Arden 15 now. It is a great dense grass that spreads very fast and looks great. I have gotten many compliments on the lawn from people visiting or people coming to work on the house.

One thing some people may find to be a drawback is that during the summer it requires you to cut at least twice a week.

I don't have experience with zoysia but people love it and it looks great too.
