I have some peppervine that I want to kill. What type of herbicide can I use that will not affect a nearby pecan and oak tree?

I remember this being asked before and a specific remedy suggested. A selective herbicide needs to be applied to a fresh cut that contains the green ring just under the outer bark. This is the only way to get to the root system. I think the herbicide suggested was Triclopyr.
I only remember because I hate peppervine but could be totally wrong on all of this.

Your memory is good - Trichlopyr is a good herbicide to to kill vines, peppervine, poison ivy, Virginia Creeper, etc in the manner you described. Often sold as “Vine and Stump Killer”, with 8.8% trichlopyr, by several manufacturers,

I had a ten year war with this crap. It had sent runners all over my back yard. If your problem is long running, you may be able to pull a lot of it when the ground is soft. It tends to run near the surface. I could have made rope with mine.

Keep in mind that Triclopyr can kill via root uptake and do not spray it around trees you want to keep. Use the method suggested above.
