My wife is looking at buying either a Maytag Washer/Dryer set or GE Washer/Dryer set. We are a family of 6 so these units are heavily utilized multiple times a day. Recs for 1 brand over the other?
Units we have narrowed down to are:
Maytag: Maytag Washer and Maytag Dryer
GE: GE Washer and GE Dryer
Thanks!

Try to hit up a poster named Napoleon. He’s the guru. Pretty sure he’s a Speed Queen guy for brands.

I'd pass on GE. Really bad experience with GE in last 5 years or so. LG highly recommended for front loaders but nobody services them it seems.
ETA after my GE HE top loader crapped out i bought an LG front loader. it's worked great so far. i know the agitator washers last longer, but they seem to be much harder on your clothes. i wear dress shirts for work and got tired of old agitator fraying the seams.

Without any hesitation...Maytag

I just bought a Maytag washer and dryer. My requirements were having a top loader, agitator, and a way to over ride the water sensing stuff. I wanted something a little fancier than the old Kenmores they replaced but pretty similar. I bought a MVWB765FW washer and a MEDB766FW from stantons because they had last years models and they were cheaper. They are really quiet and do a great job on the clothes. The steam function on the dryer is pretty cool too. We will see if they last.

Whirlpool makes Maytag washers now. If you're looking that route, i'd just get the cheaper of the two. Not getting anything extra with Maytag name.

Yeah the salesman at stantons said that as well. He mentioned that moving forward the Maytag washers will primarily be agitator models while while whirlpool will focus on impellers.

Look at Speed Queen for the washer.
Then forget about the Maytag or the GE.
Dryer... doesn't matter. Just get a big one. It has one function... to get wet things dry.

makes sense. the brand cachet of Maytag seems to register more with older population

Do not get a front load washer.

No problems yet with my 2 year old Maytag MCT top loader with agitator or 7 year old Maytag Centennial electric dryer.

They really shouldn't be allowed to even make those things.

Whirlpool top loading washer, model WTW4955HW
Whirlpool dryer, model WED49STBW, this model has a drop down door that I prefer to a swing door because the drop down door doubles as sort of a work shelf when adding or removing clothes. This model also has a steam setting which I think is sort of odd and unnecessary, and I don't like the idea of connecting a water hose from the washing machine cold water hose to the dryer. So, I did not run a hose to the dryer, and we don't use that setting on the dial. Whirlpool has two 7-cu.ft. models with a swing door and no steam setting for about $50 less.
All at Lowe's.
We really like the washer and dryer a lot.

If you buy a top load, just make sure you buy the washer with an agitator. I bought a maytag top load without the agitator thinking it would give me more space to wash blankets and comforters, etc. It doesn't. You still have to load it as if it has the agitator and it doesn't clean nearly as well. Mine isn't even 2 years old and I want to give it away.
