New Washer & Dryer recommendations - Appliance stores near Ascension/BR
The wife and I are in the market for a new washer & dryer. We would prefer not to get an HE washer, but she wants them both to match. Is Speed Queen the best way to go for non-HE models? Where can I find a dealer in this area that won't screw my eyes out? I know there's a pretty long wait on appliances right now. We'll need something by September, so starting to shop now.

Whatever you decide on, do not get a front load washer.

yeah, we don't want that either. Those HE washers don't clean worth a shit

So front load is much more energy efficient, cleans better, uses less detergent, etc. What is the draw to top load over front load?

After having had a front load washer, I would disagree with this.

Gorman brothers on airline in prairieville, good local people, the price of speed queens is pretty universal, If I remember right there is a place in Amite that sells them for about $50 cheaper, just not worth it for me

I have had both and the front load cleans much better. Consumer reports and other consumer testing agencies have also come to the same conclusion.

From personal experience, I'd have to disagree. I found that my clothes wore out quicker and weren't cleaner than the top load with an agitator. Maybe I'm just a dirty mfer

there is a learning curve with front loaders but once you learn how to keep them clean, there are no smell issues with front loaders. It is a bit of trial and error though as it depends on detergent type, water hardness and laundry room ventilation.

For some reason this board hates front load washer. I don't get it either. My old set that just wore out after 15 years was a front load HE set and my new set is a front load HE set. I've been very happy with them.

Speed Queen TC5 and DC5 is what you want. Don't let the dealer talk you into any of the other models!

Stantons Ace Appliance also carries Speed Queen. Just purchased dishwasher and refrigerator from them and was very pleased with service and installation.

We went with Speed Queen and it’s going to take 4-5 weeks from Stanton. They said they have reliable monthly shipments.

One of the local SQ dealers I spoke with said he has a shipment of TC5's scheduled in August, but that the factory was currently shut down due to component shortages.

I purchased a Speed Queen TC5 washer from Gorman Bros in Prairieville in March to replace a 10 year old Whirlpool Cabrio that bit the dust. Though I was happy with Whirlpool and I felt I got my $$ out it I have say I’m very impressed with the Speed Queen - very quiet and as far I can tell cleans clothes pretty, pretty, pretty, good.

As already stated, perhaps I paid a bit more than elsewhere (but their prices are comparable to others) but convenience and proximity to me was a factor. Also they say they have an in-house service technician that works on the appliances they sell if needed, if that’s a fact, that might be a consideration for you as well - it was for me. The TC5 comes with a 5-year parts and labor warranty.
