Need some help with moisture issues around the top edge of a shower
Posted by upgrayedd on 3/6/20 at 3:03 pm00
The previous owner seems to have never addressed the issue and I need to see what my options are. The paint/drywall seems to be scaling and cracking around the top edge of the shower and I need to figure out a way to smooth it out and add possibly add some sort of a barrier to prevent future issues. Anyone run into this before?
I’d be willing to bet they put in the tub surround after the Sheetrock. What it looks like to me is instead of installing the Sheetrock over the tub surrounds nailing flange they filled the big gap with Sheetrock mud. So, unless you re-do the Sheetrock over the mailing flange that mud will always crack. I’d go back with moisture resistant Sheetrock.
ETA: they probably had a sitch like this

Sand it, add primer, paint it with a mold & mildew proof paint (semi-gloss), and then caulk it. Both my bathrooms have started doing something similar.
