I’m looking for expert suggestions for combating mosquitoes in my back yard. Last year we had some success with the spartan repellent tubes, but looking to explore other options. We will probably use spartan again but looking for other chemical and mechanical options.

On this board’s recommendation,
I sprayed Talstar multiple times but never seemed to slow them down even for a day.

For reference, backyard is zoysia grass, surrounded by flower beds on all borders, and 5 >50 year old post oak trees.

There’s a product called Mosquito Barrier. I’ve never used it, but one of my coworkers swears by it. I’ve been meaning to give it a try.

I use this fogger and mist talsar with great results. Did you use a regular sprayer?

If you want or have time to mess with plants you can do citronella and lavender.

I have used a growth regulator in the past and it has worked well. It was called Nyguard IgR. Mix it up in a sprayer and hit undersides of leaves in your bushes.

Are you putting Talstar granules in your garden? I would bet the gardens are the biggest breeding areas.

I use talstar and this year I put out 2 Spartan mosquito traps. I usually don't have a big mosquito problem.

No I was just spraying with a backpack pump sprayer. No doubt a fogged will help and I will getting or borrowing one this year.

Mosquito Guardian looks promising too, I will probably add some of that to the rotation.

Do your own pest control.com has a really good multi chemical kit for them. But you really need a decent fogger/mister They start about $200-300. Also not sure of your yard size but it helps if all your neighbors are on board. See if they will pool some money to split a fogger.

Spartan Sticks

I felt disappointed by the results (if any results) of the Spartan eradicator sticks. I had high hopes reading comments here and from their website. I placed two in what I felt were perfect locations — protected from wind and sun, and the water levels remained perfect.

To be honest , I don’t know that I could even tell a difference whatsoever. Really no noticeable difference to me. I still have some tubes left. I will try and use again within the next month or so and cross my fingers.

I’ll be looking for additional options/methods this year too.

I was not impressed with the Spartans either. Didn't seem to make any difference.

Flowtron bug zapper I bought on Amazon. I just stick it in the backyard on a plant hanger.

Does lemon grass work? Wife wants to plant some around the back patio this spring.

Honestly, in South Louisiana, nothing is going to work. We tried lemongrass a few years back and didn't notice any difference. The only thing that made any difference was treating the yard and landscaping. After a big rain, you have to treat again. Keeping the air circulating helped too.

Yeah, pretty much. I have a big pond behind my house. I've tried various things and the only thing that works is a fan blowing full speed.

The problem with bug zappers is mosquitoes aren’t really attracted to the light. You need to hang a CO2 or Octenol lure from it to kill mosquitoes.

None of the barriers work, if you look up the research these products are based on you would have to spray barrels of it around your house to get results .

Talstar is the only thing worth spraying
