Microwave - range is in the island
Moving this week. Range is in the island. Seems like counter top models are cheaper looking and built than over range. This is based on my casual shopping locally.

Is over range an option in another part of the kitchen? Or, are there nicer counter top models any of you can recommend?

We have a counter top in the pantry. Keeps it out of the way and works fine. Look at a drawer microwave as well. Similar to a warming drawer but a microwave.

We have ours inside a lower cabinet, keeps works great and no issues opening the cabinet door when we need to use it

My mother has one that's "built in", but really is just a counter top with a front facade to blend in with the cabinets

Ya got any more room in the island?

I’ve got one under the counter. I like it. We rarely use a microwave. So it’s nice that it’s out of the way and sort of out of sight.

Under counter microwaves that go in islands or cabinets are around $1500. Often they require you to have to bend down to see what you punch in.

Personally I’d rather put a counter top microwave in the pantry like you said, or I’m sure you can find a good looking one at a third of the price.

We designed a shelf for a countertop one in an upper cabinet. There’s a plug inside as well to hide the wires. I’d rather this so we can have a Zephyr cyclone hood over our induction cooktop. I’m not convinced that the combo hoods are as sufficient in venting.

I have an in island Sharp and like it. You don’t need to bend down and it be some hassle as the other poster suggested, and I’m 6’1”. It was about $1k.

Yeah. Mine has a knob you turn to set the time. You press the button to start it. It’s got letters on it that spell “start” which are pretty visible.

No need to bend over.

Oh, I like that. I'll have to look closely Wednesday after the closing to see what I have room for.

re: Microwave - range is in the island
I know 2 people who recently got those when they built and said they wouldn’t put them in again. One said the motor went out that opens the door and said the clearance for taller objects is a lot less. The other complained about having to bend down or step back to see the numbers. They did say it was nice to be able to take hot bowls from right in front of you to on the counter top without having to turn around and walk anywhere.

A few others said they liked them, including in here. I’m sure different models have their ups and downs, just something to consider.

We have the Sharp microwave drawer. I strongly recommend it!
They used to have too models..... one with an automatic drawer you press a button to open and close and the manual. Go manual as more moving parts means more to break.

Just wondering how big a nightmare installation will be. I know there's power n the island since the range top is on it. I'll look tonight(Just closed) to see if there's an outlet.
