May need to move a house - need advice and a quote
Do any of you have a recommendation for a house mover? I have an empty lot and my neighbor has a house that I would consider moving to my property for temporary living while I build.

Any recommendations on someone that I could consult with and maybe provide me with a quote?

We don’t even know where you live.

bTW, It won’t be cheaper to move a home to your place for temp living. Travel trailer will be much cheaper

Yeah guess that would help. I’m in Baton Rouge.

Looking for the name of someone to take a look at the house and tell me what this will entail. I’m sure a trailer is cheaper, but depending on cost, I’m willing to pay more for the extra space and comfort.

Can’t say for certain but last time I watched a show where they moved a little house on HGTV they said it cost like 20k to move it just across the same property. Can’t imagine that would be worth it for what you’re talking about.

This does not sound like the best plan in any way.

Even if the house is free it’s not worth what you are going to pay and more than likely it won’t hold up. Sheetrock is going to crack walls split pipes break tile bust all that good stuff

Sheetrock is easy to fix
highly doubt pipes will break
We don't even know if it has tile, but tiles not likely to "bust" either. May have some cracks along the grout lines.

trailers have pipes and some have tile. I haven't heard anybody talk about all those problems when moving trailers.

re: May need to move a house - need advice and a quote
I know there are issues with moving a house - I’m just looking for the name of someone that can come look at the situation and give me an idea of potential issues and cost. Yes, some tiles may crack and yes I might need to repair some sheetrock - all of which would be expected.

So far I’ve gotten a lot of conjecture about what I should or shouldn’t do without even telling the type of foundation that the home is currently sitting on.

Yes - I’m gonna base my decision off someone from the internet that watched HGTV

Well to be fair, you haven’t given us much information. Like house style, shape, dimensions, etc. Will the move stay within the same parish? What are the plans for the moved house once the new house is built? The more details you provide, the more likely someone can help you

That being said, I have a couple family members that do this type of “construction” on the side. This topic has come up before and they said it starts around $20/sq for a basic move, and that doesn’t include permit. And keep in mind, a house of any significant size will likely need to be cut into a few pieces then reassembled on site, which normally requires a new roof as a consequence. It’s much more expensive to move a sizable house in one piece.

As others have suggested, a mobile home (buying or renting) is like a smarter play here. If you need more space, a double wide trailer would work great and you could always sell it afterwards.

Well looks like until this last post I was the the only one that gave you any sort of idea on a cost and I at least qualified the info. No need to be a dick.

I moved my house about 300 ft on same property after flooding in 2016. The cost was $20,000 which was quoted over the phone. While planning job contractor stated that I was getting a heck of a deal but they stood by initial bid. My house is 2200 sq ft and this didn’t include utilities, plumbing, site preparation etc. which more than doubled the total cost.

My bad. Not trying to be a dick. I’m just looking for names of people/companies that have been used before - and I get a bunch of “it shouldn’t be done” or “it doesn’t make sense”

Devilliers house moving, they are out of Eunice. They were professional and I was very pleased with their work.

One might pause and realize that a unanimous “that is an insane idea that makes no sense” reaction might mean that no one wants to sign their friend, family member or reliable business person they work with up for an idea you are surely not going to follow through with

What would they lose? A phone call and 10 minutes of their time telling me about the logistics?

I really don’t understand all the negative reaction here.

re: May need to move a house - need advice and a quote
Moved a home last year .5 miles. Cost was initially 15K for the move & 15K for a new foundation. Ended up being another $2,500 to "fold the roof" down to fit through power lines. It's a pain in the dick process. Good luck.
