I'm looking at ripping our five year old carpet out of all the bedrooms in our home and replace it with LVF. We currently have engineered hardwood in the living room and hallways that connect to all the rooms.

Our main reason for getting rid of the carpet is an older toy poodle that has accidents on the carpet and has ruined it. I see that LVF is about as waterproof as anything on the market so it intrigued us.

Can you make it match up with the engineered wood transitions and not look too bad? Also, how waterproof is it really?

Wife and I picked it out today for our new build. Owner of the flooring place said it’s 100% waterproof as I was on the fence about putting it in laundry and bathrooms. They also had about 100 different samples of different shades and styles so you may be able to match it as well.

Waterproof meaning water will not hurt the planks. It does not mean liquid won't find its way between the planks. Still probably one of your better options with an incontinent dog.

Lawson legends. Homer is the color. Wife liked a different one but I preferred the beveled edges. To save money and allocate it to other things, we are doing it throughout with no tile. Flooring folks said if house floods, we can peel them up, let them dry, and put them back down. They also said they glue down planks near tubs and water sources so water cant seep under planks which made me feel better. It also speeds up move in date bc it’s so quick to install compared to tile. I know it’s trendy but wood is out of our budget. So when comparing wood look tile and LVT, we went with this bc it’s warmer, no grout lines, and in 10y if I wanna pull it up and replace it, it’s a piece of cake. Not like chiseling tile up.

I have a dog that’s 16 who’s starting to have accidents, those pet training pads have been a lifesaver.

We also recently went with LVP due to a bunch of water damage from a leaking dishwasher. Thickness will be a challenge in the transition, but my contractor made it pretty seamless.

As the other poster said, extremely waterproof but if a bunch of liquid is there for a long time, it will find a seam.

We went with Coretec.

In a rent house right now as my house is being built. After the freeze, the water heater happened to rust out. I never noticed as we still had hot water and there was nothing gushing out. I noticed that water was under the vinyl plank. I thought it was something else. But the water did get underneath the flooring for a few days. After it dried out, there are no signs of damage. It's been how ever long since the freeze.

I guess I need to look into the training pads. Thanks for the advice.

magicman, how do you like the Lawson floors? We’re about to go this route and curious if you have any thoughts after having them installed?

To be honest, I like them more than I thought I would. The color masks a lot of dirt and although we’ve managed to scratch them in one small spot, they are very hardy. The rubber mat underneath makes them very quiet as well. My favorite is real wood glued down but with all the other shite we went over budget on that just wasn’t in the cards. We also put them in every square inch of the house, so when the tile guys screwed up the shower and the plumbers didn’t connect the dishwasher properly, we weren’t freaking out bc of the water everywhere.

Thanks! Curious, what scratched it and were you able to mask it? An installer I talked to said tire shine can sometimes help the scratch not be so visible.

When we moved in we bought wooden bar stools and I didn’t put the felt pads beneath them. After a month of use I noticed a small scratch. It’s only 2” long and under where the stool normally rests so I didn’t even bother with it. I have them under everything now though
