Ledger Board to Stucco

I’m wanting to come off an exterior wall for a pergola. The exterior wall is stucco and I would attach the ledger about a foot below the soffit. What is the best way to seal this area behind/above the ledger or how would I go about flashing it? Another idea I had was to space the ledger out with washers so no moisture would be trapped. Thanks for any suggestions.
