LED Lights - Keep going out
I have a bunch of BR 40 LED lights in my house aka can lights. My LED lights keep going out and I'm having to change light bulbs every year. Anyone else having this problem? Anything I can do to fix this? House is about 12 years old.

Is it an LED fixture or are you putting in LED bulbs?

What brand bulbs are you getting? Most should be warrantied longer than that

Heat is the killer of LEDs. Scrap the bulbs and get the retrofit adapters, they have bigger heat sinks for the LEDs. Fixtures we have to use the bulbs in do the same as yours, all our retrofitted cans are going on 4 years now w/ no problems. Our chandeliers are also going on 4 years, but obviously there is a lot of airflow around those bulbs.

I dont believe. they're just regular cans. Do I need to buy LED cans? I was looking for some literature on led cans.

Not sure this is your issue but many LED bulbs have very slightly smaller/shorter bases than the incandescent bulbs.

Not sure why that's the case but it often keeps them from making a solid contact.

I had problems with them burning out quickly in many older fixtures and solved the issue by making sure to slightly bend the center contact inside the socket out a bit with needle nose pliers before putting the LED bulbs in.

Home Depot LED can lights

I use something like these for our can lights and I've had them for almost 5 years with zero issues. Some are even in an upstairs area where it gets pretty hot in the summer.

Those retrofit kits work great I did all of mine 2 years ago, no issues yet.

re: LED Lights - Keep going out
I have a ton of can lights in my house and went all LED with retrofit kits when I built. I used the CE from Home Depot with selectable color temperature for all the bathroom and outdoor areas so I could have a whiter light. For all my others, I used Sunco kits off Amazon. They were a little cheaper, and had more lumens. All were dimmable LEDs as well.

Been installed for about 2 years now, and I’ve only had one go bad.

Had the same problem, changed the switch problem went away. LEDs must be sensitive to the voltage flip

Buy the Commercial Electric retro fit trims in the link above. If you want a ton of light, buy the high output version here:

I put those types in existing cans over 5 years ago and they are still going strong.
