Laying a fridge down to move it

I have heard you can't lay a fridge down. I have also heard that you can, but you then have to wait a while before using it. I need to move a fridge from my mom's house to my garage and would like to be able to lay it down. Any thoughts on this?

You can lay it down just let it sit upright for awhile so the fluids settle before you start it back up. I’ve heard as many hours on its side, you need to keep upright the same amount before you plug it in.

Done it many times. If it’s a short run, I’ll wait a few hours. If it’s a decent run or if I don’t need it running that day, I’ll let it sit till the following day.

thats fine, just wait about 4 hrs before plugging it in.
the oil leaves te compressor when you lay it down and it takes a lot longer then you think for it all to settle back into the compressor and not cause issues.
the main issue is oil can get into piston chamber and will bend the valves if you dont give it time to seep back out
