Every winter I get a large circle of grass that dies outward. Starts with yellowing of the tips and then dies. Same spot every year. Any suggestions on how to stop this or what is the cause. The yellowing began with the last cold snap. The areas that die off don’t really fill back in even over the summer even with new sod.

There was not. I bought the house a few years ago, leveled the yard and started with new St. Aug sod. The second year the issue started. Started small, a perfect circle about the size of an oil drum. Every year since it does the same thing but gets larger every year.

Have you ever treated it with a fungicide?

Do you take your nightly bedtime piss in that area? I have a spot that I pee in and has died like that.

Sounds and looks like Brown Patch, a fungal disease. Common in St Augustine. Here are a few brief articles, with control recommendations.

Since you are in the NO area, send your photos to the horticultural extension agent (Chris Dunaway) in Orleans parish for assessment of whether or not he thinks it’s brown patch, which I understand is now referred to “large patch”. His contact info is below, as well as a link Nov 2019 newsletter that further discusses large patch disease with some pics - it’s at the end of the newsletter, and article by the LSU AgCenter on Large Patch.
