Guy/gals: Need help with identification of this plant in our landscape. Trying to determine when we can transplant and split up the plant? bulb? Thanks in advance

African Iris

In my experience this was a tough as nails plant. Go ahead and divide. I think this one has roots and not a bulb. My memory sucks somedays.

This is african iris, actually the variety is called "katrina iris"

i believe it was propagated post katrina with "lsu colors"

tough as nails, can be split, does great in full fun and pretty drought tolerant

Katrina, as it does not have purple striping. If purple is present with the yellow, then butterfly/African. Katrina are the knock out roses of iris. Seldom seen without a bloom. Monrovia patent, so like Geauxld said, buy one and split. Very expensive to purchase.

Look for the poor man's Katrina Iris: Orange Drop, or Lemon Drop. Blooms resemble bicolor iris more, but perform great, without the crown rot issue the butterfly iris has.

Yep...African iris. Just know that if you split or transplant to a shady location blooming may be a bit sluggish.
