Ivy Experts?
Posted by longhorn22 on 8/9/22 at 12:29 pm03
Spinoff of my thread from yesterday about a fence....
Theres a portion of our yard that our neighbor just put up a new fence.... I'd like to put Ivy on his portion on my side to have a nice greenery look for our backyard. Also our fence we are putting isnt the same as his so It will kind of be an "accent wall"..
So Is there a correct time to plant Ivy?
Is there a specific type of ivy I should plant?
Looking to do what I have to do in order to get things going.
Appreciate all the help!

Fence facing you, confederate jasmine. Smells so good during the spring. I’d put some rails for it to climb up but it will take

I did this on a section between our houses. Planted against the 6’ fence and it grows up a trellis, then along an 18” or so high section of wire trellis I installed along the top of the fence. After it blooms in spring I cut it way back and it makes a nice hedge.

Petty low maintenance and it turns a lovely shade of red in the fall.

He has a barn/shed in front of that portion now on his side.
Also, if it grows on my side will it seep through to his? Regardless...I'm just trying to clean up that side of the yard since when he replaced the fence between our house he just did it and didnt do anything else (reach out to me etc) not that he has to, but dude is a douche.

I'd be more worried about the ivy rotting the fence. it'll hold moisture longer after rains.
I have poison ivy that I'm fighting to get rid of for these very reasons, plus I'm allergic
