the same color??

We're wanting to really lighten the living area and the easiest way to do it is paint. Our trim is a creamy off white that seems to have yellow tones being pulled from the gold (sort of "old gold") ... I'm loving the idea and pictures similar but afraid it'll be "apartment like".

Has anyone done it and regretted it? I do realize it's a personal preference thing but it can't hurt to ask.

Not my cup of tea although I've done it when painting rental properties for a quick in and out.

To me, it looks like a quickie rental property paint job in the end and rather plain with no definitive contrast to set it off.

I did not do the same color, but the crown molding was dark, and I painted it white and it makes the room look a lot bigger.

Have your paint mixed to the same color. Do not use the semi gloss on the wall and the trim. The foot board gets far more abuse than your walls. ...

Talk to a real paint pro like a Sherwin Williams store. Home Depot and Lowes are not real paint department pros ....

We do it all the time in our business. Ceilings get flat, walls eggshell, trim and doors get at least semi-gloss or full gloss. All same color formula but 3 diff paints. Oil-based on trim and doors. You’ll get diff look from each of the 3 even they are the same color formula. Paint your island a diff color if you want to add some pop.

Thanks everyone -- we're going to be paying someone to paint everything (it's a lot) BUT I'm thinking I'll paint a section and live with it a bit -- I'll use less expensive paint to get hte idea. I don't want to pay him twice!

How big is the house and how much were you quotes? I did one room this weekend and I’m about ready to tap.

Didn’t get the quote.

House is 2250 or so but we’re oainting about 1700? Living/kitchen/dining area and two bedrooms, 1 bathroom.

I can let you know when we get it what it is. My husband is relatively great at painting but time is an issue so it’s just easier to hire someone good. Which is why I need to be sure about color.

Same color? All day.

Same sheen? Hell no, except maybe a linen closet

This is very popular right now, especially in high end homes. It will make your rooms like bigger and brighter and more modern and updated.

But be careful with the color choice. It sounds like you want to put the current creamy yellow tinted trim color on your wall too. I’m not sure what color this is, and you could try one wall to see if it ends up too yellow, but if it were me I’d try to go more neutral.

Can’t go wrong with BM white dove or SW simply white. Trim semi gloss walls eggshell.

I do my ceilings in the same white but flat.

One more thing … is this in a room with cabinets or built ins? Painting those too?

Just went through this. To get everything painted in a 2000 sqft house you’re looking at 13k+. That’s duration quality sherwin Williams paint with all walls, molding, ceiling, cabinets etc

Well we’ve got so much trim and molding that I don’t know that I want to change it.

And yes to cabinets in the kitchen — wood but we’re nit painting them. I don’t want to want my wood cabinets back in a few years.

And our plan is definitely eggshell on walls, semi gloss trim. Ceilings are already white and not in need of a thing!

Edit — I think really that the creamy yellow I described for the current trim is the current paint color throwing it off.
