There have been discussions about keeping their chickens in their backyard and they continue to hop the fence and I'm worried about trying to lay future grass seed down. The chickens shite at different places of my yard, are not caged up in their own damn home, and the owners just say "sorry" every time it happens. They legit do not care.

We live in a subdivision that nowhere resembles a farm, but we don't have an HOA or anything to keep things like this in check. I know they have at least 3 chickens which is allowed in city limits. I cannot tell if there is more than 1 rooster which is not legal in BR. I just find it wild that they are able to just sell hundreds of eggs each month on places like Facebook. People are constantly pulling up to their house just to pick up these eggs.

What course of action can/should I take? I've considered calling Animal Control but I don't want to be "that neighbor" and have even more future awkward interactions. I also don't want to "accidentally" have the animals poisoned because I know it's not their fault that their owns continue to do nothing.

Instead of "first you make a roux" I would suggest "first you heat up some oil".

are you honestly this incompetent that you can’t handle this situation on your own? If it’s bothering you that much then whack them with a shovel and throw them back over the fence

Ah yes I'd love to have to deal with my neighbors for years knowing that I killed their beloved pets with a shovel. Excellent idea.

Not sure what type of fence it is but if you can run fishing line above so as to increase the height of the fence. They'll learn pretty quick that they can't jump and eventually it won't be necessary.

Ask him to clip their wings. Once they realize they can’t go over the fence anymore they will stop trying, and even a 3’ fence will be enough.

Yard hens make really good jambalaya/stew/gumbo. They're generally too tough to fry. Hold together really well in stuff that takes some stirring and a little while to cook.

The best jambalaya is yard chicken jambalaya. It tastes great and when you're done cleaning the pot is super easy. It doesn't have all the greasy pork goo at the bottom.

Makes a really good gumbo too.

Definitely eat them.

If it bothers you that much animal control will make them get rid of any excess birds and any roosters.

If they had a rooster, you would know.

IDGAF about chickens, but having a roosters with close neighbors is not appropriate.

Throw a few feathers over the fence and they will think a hawk killed them.

I been around chickens all my life, four chickens are not laying “hundreds” of eggs a month. One hundred would be pushing it

Cut the feathers on one wing with some garden shears…they won’t be able to fly over the fence.

Like others have said, clip their wings. I would ask the owners to do it. If they say they don't know how, just point them to a site like this

https://backyardpoultry.iamcountryside.com/feed-health/a-guide-to-clipping-chicken-wings/

All you need is a pair of scissors
