I got a brand new AC installed (inside and outside unit) a little over a year ago. About a 2 weeks ago, I started to get a smell. I called the AC people and they said it was "dirty sock syndrome". How common is this for a unit not that old to get this? Is this a manufacturer issue?

The AC people recommended to have the unit cleaned and to install a UV filter. Do you guys agree with this?

Thanks for any help!

Run it for a while, it'll go away.

There was a thread a week or 2 ago about the exact same problem.

Yeah we had a thread on it last week. Haven't smelled it the past 2 weeks.

Then of course I smell it 20 minutes ago when it kicked on and now I see this thread.

Of course. Haha. I did a quick initial search and must have missed it. Found it the 2nd time. It kind of makes sense. Weather here has been hot and cold the past few weeks here. I'll run it longer and see if it goes away.

In reading that other thread, it discusses the smell coming from the drain line? Would adding vinegar or bleach to the drain line not solve it?

Happens every year for be after the AC doesn't run for a while. It will go away after a couple days of regular use
