So after a free HVAC servicing, it was suggested to put an air scrubber in my 3 ton units at my house. As an allergy sufferer, I figured I would try out an air purifier on the bedroom side of the house and if it helps me I'll put one on the kitchen side too.

The Reme takes a 24V input so right now its wired to a separate relay (included) and transformer (also included). I have 120V on the transformer primary and one leg of the output to the Reme and the other leg to a normally-open contact. So when the coil energizes the Reme turns on.

Right now I have that coil between the C and G terminals, which according to my HVAC buddy should have 24V between them anytime the blower motor runs. Unfortunately when I tested the unit in fan (manual), cool, and heat, there is 0V between the two terminals in heat mode. So as of now the Reme only turns on in cool or manual fan. My Honeywell thermostat appears to not put 24V out on the G wire in heat mode - is this odd?

Any suggestions are appreciated. I would like the Reme to only energize when the blower runs. So I just need a 24V input for when this occurs.

Thanks in advance.

This rang a bell with me in regards to YT video I watched within the past year of a HVAC tech installing a reme halo and making the electrical connections on the air handler board, thinking at some point I might want to DYI install one.

I found the video LINK, around the 17 min mark he makes the 2 wire connections from the Reme, white and black, on the EAC (electronic air cleaner) terminals, white to EAC neutral, black to EAC hot. Does your air handler circuit board have these 2 connections? If I understand him correctly, he implies Reme should operate only while the blower runs with that set up.

Looking a photo of the air handler/furnace circuit board on my 15 year old HVAC unit I have these EAC terminals on my board but they are spade connector terminals and not screw connector terminals as in the video. Anyway, you might want to discuss with your HVAC buddy first.

But like you, I’m also under the impression you should getting 24v between C and G when the blower is running in heat mode - we both must be missing something.

My HVAC buddy suggested I put a second relay with the coil between C and W and that fixed my issue. So I have jumpers on terminals 2 and 4 (normally open), C jumpered on terminal 3, and terminals 1 for each coil go to G & W respectively. Here's a photo of the inside of the furnace along with photos of the overall job.

I put the 120V (pri) side of the new transformer under the wire nuts that feed the furnace. I don't know if mine had EAC terminals but I know some instructions say to leave those alone.

My 2012 Ruud air handler seems to not follow that protocol (or maybe it's the 2020 Honeywell smart thermostat) but either way the second relay fixed my issue.

I'll have to report back after I've run the unit in my system for a few weeks. Hope it helps my allergies because it was pricey!

Good job - helps to have a friend who is a HVAC tech. Let us know if it helps with allergies. A lot less pricey as a DYI job vs a contracted job, hope it works as advertised.
