About 45 square feet of 3"x6" tiles over painted sheetrock. I have the tiles already.

Any recommendations in the Baton Rouge/Central area?
TIA

Sounds like Subway tile, should run in the 3-5$ a foot range. Don't know anyone in your area. Check a local flooring store and see if they will hook you up with a setter on the side. Most have no problem doing so

Recently paid $650 for a similar sized job. That included the install labor, thin set and grout. I purchased the tile I wanted separately. Absolute granite and flooring. They did good work.

$3 to $5 per sq ft would only be under $250. Are you sure about this?

That rate seems reasonable although you might have to pay a minimum (say $500 or so) amount to get somebody to do a small job since it will likely be spread over 2 days (lay one day, grout the next). It is hard to find people who want to take on small jobs.

Are they bullnose or do you have an end piece? Because most tile you have to figure out how the edge is going to be. As said I’d be surprised if anyone decent would do it for under $400 as its 2 days of work. But you may find someone.

I've got bullnose that goes around the sides.

Basically, I'm trying to figure out if this is worth doing DIY.

It's a pretty easy job if you are a DIYer.

I guess most people just mortar the tile straight to drywall? What if you have an orange peel texture? Doesn’t matter enough to effect the straightness? Do people recommend a waterproofing layer first? I know people tiled to drywall for years I just always worry about behind the sink.

If you have any spots that might make it bow out, sand it down. Use red guard if you want a waterproof seal. I use Custom Building Products AcrylPro 1 Gal. Ceramic Tile Adhesive, grout of your choice, and grout caulk for corners/planes swaps.

Walls $8 ft for that job, maybe a little more to cover day rate of vendor as stated earlier. I’d offer $375 and tell them $400 or look around. That’s easy job
