Question oh wise ones. My sons, in-laws had massive damage to their double wide trailer water damage from busted pipes in ceiling, the insurance adjuster said they would not cover any of the loss, because they didn’t have snow and ice coverage. I have never heard of this, and don’t have it on my house but was wondering if this is a real type of coverage or the insurance company trying to skip out on the claim. My company said we are covered for any short term water damage (not a 3 year leak that is finally discovered). Any of y’all got snow and ice and if so how much extra was it.

Sounds made up. I’ve only heard of “wind and hail” and it’s a separate deductible and always covered.

What insurance carrier? Son in law needs to read his policy to be 100% sure and then get tough with them. Insurance will try to screw you anyway they can.

The insurance company should provide the policy language showing why the damage is not covered. Some insurance policies are all peril polices, that means they cover everything unless it specifically says in the policy wording that it is not covered. Then there are other polices that are named peril policies. These polices only cover the named perils and normally it is 6 perils of coverage.

It could be related to a mobile home policy.

double wide trailer water damage from busted pipes in ceiling,

I have never seen a mobile home with pipes in the ceiling. That's not standard construction for a manufactured home. If it was a phone adjuster they probably thought you were full of shite saying you had a pipe burst in the ceiling

You may have plumbing pipes in the ceiling but that would very unusual and may need further explanation or photographs to clarify whats going on.

To my knowledge (20 yrs in biz) there is no snow/ice endorsement on any property policy (in the south).Have they contacted their agent and asked for his thoughts? Most commercial property policies exclude the weight of snow/ice causing damage but that is a different animal.
They need their agent to get involved ASAP!

A homeowners insurance policy is usually either an HO-3 or an HO-5 policy, which is different from a dwelling or mobile home policy. It's possible that it's not covered on their policy but I really am not certain. Public adjusters are going to be their friend in this situation, though, because I'm sure there's SOME coverage on their policy that the insurance company may be trying to pass on. A public adjuster will find it if it exists.
