I discovered a hole in my roof this weekend about 2"x2", and an area of about 6"x6" of sheathing needs to be replaced around the hole due to rot. I am unable to get up on the roof as it is pretty steep. From the ground I cannot see any major damage to the shingles, but due to the hole, I assume some damage has been done. What can I reasonably expect to pay to have this fixed. I am in BR. TIA

Good luck! Get a few quotes. Some people may claim you’ll end up having to replace all the shingles on that section. A handyman will replace a small section with plywood and use a handful of shingles. So anywhere between $300 and $3K. Put Garcia on your list to call. They did some solid work for me for less than I expected.

Same here. I had to get an entire replacement due to the hurricane last year and they did a great job from start to finish. They even did the sheetrock repair from the leaky roof.

Also have whoever does your work give you a statement on the condition of the rest of your roof. Your insurance company will see the patch and start asking questions. If you have a statement from the roofer/handyman it makes life a lot easier.

We had a 2x2 hole from a lightning strike. I think it was 800 to replace the plywood and patch the shingles.

Last hole I repaired of this size I made my buddy supply materials. Was 1 2x4, tube of roof mud, and a bundle of shingles. I had some plywood/osb large enough leftover from my actual jobsite. I drove an hour.25 each way. Crushed a 4 pack of tall boys and smoked 1 blunt, while in my sandals roofing. Charged him $250. Basically it was a glorified social call, that unfortunately activated my minimum roofing fee.

I use J&J Roofing out of St. Amant but I'm not sure they'll work in BR or not. They are a small company and do very quality work. I've used them multiple times in the past with 100% satisfaction and their rates are way below average.

It's a lady and her kids who run it. I believe her husband used to run in years ago but he passed away and she took over. Don't let the fact that it's a lady scare you away -- they are very professional and do good work. May want to at least call and see if they'll work in BR.
