We’re getting a piece of raw land prepped for our build in the future. We’ll be living on site in a mobile home until we build. After calling around I discovered most drillers were 6 months out. We’re looking to move onto the property end of August. I got lucky with one guy who is actually drilling a well for my neighbor next week and he agreed to drill mine “since he was already there”.

My dilemma is I wasn’t planning on drilling this quick. I’m meeting a grader to identify one of two homesites that would be best and I’m meeting a soil scientist for a perc test the following week. I realize I’m doing this backwards but due to scheduling I’m going forward with it. My plan is to put the well on the hill behind both homesites (they’re close to each other) and *hopefully* have the septic run along the front/side of the property.

Anybody see anything wrong with this? The land not percing in front of my house is my biggest concern. The well would be 70ish feet from the closet homesite. Would that pose a problem when grading the homesite? We had the trees cut where the well will go but the stumps are still there. Will this be an issue?

Don’t have much to offer but this is an interesting thread. My only input is that the stumps may interfere when you run the pipe from the well to your destination, but I doubt they’d be a problem just for the well.

If you are worried about sewerage getting into your well water, that won’t happen. Aquifers are much deeper than surface water and there are impermeable layers in between.

Just tell the driller about the stumps so he is shure not to set up his rig over one.

I drill 10-20 wells per years and they can cut those stumps like butter. Might be a problem setting your casing so it’s not ideal but certainly not a deal breaker. The biggest problem is hitting the side of a stump and it throwing the bit off to the side so your hole is not plumb.

The closest stump to where I’m drilling is ~5’. Just wasn’t sure if they would create a problem as far as setting the rig up.

I would say only if you’re married to the exact location then it could possibly be a problem but if you can move a little then they should be able to set up around it.
