How are everyone generators doing? I sure a lot of people bought new one's and I am checking to see what runs the best. Hopefully they are running like they should and good luck out there guys. The worse may be over, but it will still be bad for a while.

Duromax XP15000E here. It ran everything in my house that I needed. That included one freezer, two refrigerators, and two beverage coolers, along with a 5 ton ac unit. I didn't try to run the electric oven or electric dryer. I have a gas cooktop, and gas hot water heater. I just bought this generator this year and I am very pleased with it's performance.

How important is a low "THD" for generators? I have an all electric house with all LED lights. These are not LED light bulbs, but LED circuit boards. I had generators when living in Pearl River and I want one for the winters up here in NW Arkansas.

For digital circuitry Total Harmonic Distortion can be a problem. All my computers, and digital equipment run off a UPS. One UPS per device. So I have had no issues with anything while running on the generator. However, I have accumulated so many UPS units that I am now considering a whole house UPS system, if that is even feasible from a financial standpoint.

anything that has a switchmode power supply (most plug in electronic devices today) could be affected by a source high in harmonics ("dirty" power) due to the power factor correction circuit within them, harmonics produce a low power factor and the correction circuit either won't allow a device to turn on or it might turn on intermittently

LED light bulbs typically do not have a switchmode supply but other LED lighting might have if

I was given an older Honda 6500 a few years back and it hasn't ever functioned well. Just replaced carb and fuel lines and still having issues. Luckily I evacuated and not reliant upon it. Planning on getting something new.

How to decide?
1. Regular vs Inverter
2. Dual Fuel big advantage? Is propane more readily available post hurricane
3. 4500 - 6500 -> Likely cant go bigger due to storage space. Any idea what's necessary for fridge, freezer, lights, maybe some fans/window unit?

Later in the year, I'm looking to buy one of these 3 8750W/7000W inverters: Predator, WEN, and Champion. Recs from anyone who has done prior research on these and/or may own 1 of these 3 types?
Thanks!

Bought one of these after a good friend used one post storm last year. Powered his lower floor AC and another few odds and ends. Luckily I didn’t need it this go round but I’m happy with it.

I bought the Champion Hybrid inverter 6250 earlier this year, and wired in a generator 240v receptacle directly into my panel. Extremely happy with it! I'm able to run my whole house, 2 fridges, and garage on it. (minus HVAC). Been running a big portable AC in my bedroom every night. It's really impressed me on how fuel efficient it is too!

The WEN model you linked is the one I am waiting on to be back in stock, but the others look good also. I have a lot of LED circuit board lights plus two refrigerators and one freezer I want the low THD of these. If I needed one quickly down there I would get either of these if they were in stock.

I tried to prioritize dual fuel vs low THD. With the soft start on my central unit I wanted to be able to run it (3 ton) to not have to mess with window units. I decided to go with a larger dual fuel generator that gave me 50 amp capability vs the low THD. I do plan on buying one of the dual fuel inverter generators this winter, 3500-4500 watts, since if we have another freeze we don’t need to run much with natural gas heaters.

Another thing to consider is a lot of the inverters only produce 120 volt power. Not as big of a deal if you aren’t running a central unit, but something else to consider.

My power needs should be different than the power needs y'all will need down there. If I have any major outage it would most likely be winter time, so I would not need a central a/c unit to power. I also don't have the capabilities to get propane/natural gas y'all do. There is no natural gas lines here and my house is total electric.

Westinghouse 5,300 dual fuel.
Sam’s $450.
Working great.
Window unit, tv, fridge, modem, lamp.
Doesn’t drink gas so the 4.5 gallon tank isn’t an issue.
