Gas in stored equipment

If you aren’t going to be using say a tiller for several months, and you use the fuel shut off valve and let it run till it dies. Is it better to empty the gas tank or fill it full up? Have heard opinions both ways over the years.

Always have heard to let it run out, but I rarely do, yet I usually can start the tiller, chain saw, weed eater, etc after long idle times with no issues.
I also am too lazy to get the ethanol free gas for this equipment, too
I guess ive just been lucky

Empty for sure. That gas starts going bad right away. Fuel stabilizer will get you a year or so. I have a generator stored dry. Didntbrun for 4 years. Put gas in it and it fired right up.

I leave gas in all of my equipment with stabilizer then just crank it up at least once a month and let it run for a bit.

Ive gotten into the habit of always using stabilizer every time I fill up my can. I found that I could never predict when something would sit for a long time.

Run it dry and use ethanol free only. Stabilizer if going to store it.
I’ve never heard anything about storing it “full”. Sounds like a terrible idea. Even if you Store it with a little bit of fuel, you can usually fill it up on use to dilute the bad fuel enough to run it. Couldn’t do that if it was full of bad fuel.

Briggs and Stratton says store it with a full tank
Storing your mower with a full tank of fuel prevents moisture from condensing in the tank which can form rust that could break away and clog the carburetor. Add STA-BIL Storage, according to package directions, before filling your gas can with fuel. After adding the treated fuel to the fuel tank, run your mower for a few minutes so the stabilized fuel circulates through the engine's fuel system.

The idea behind storing it full is that the air has water and that water can condense and go into your gas. This is mostly with larger tanks like boats with 50-200+ gallon tanks. I wouldn’t think it would be a worry with a liter size tank on yard equipment.
