Any recommendations between forest mulching a property vs traditional? Building a house on stilts of that matters when it’s cleared.

If you go with mulching you will have to spray with herbicide to prevent resprouting. Probably not recommended for larger stems as the roots may interfere with foundation.

I feel like if you're clearing a lot of area and not planting grass, you'd have to do this anyway, no?

I plan to mulch the front half of my 10 acres soon. I've seen it done and really like the look. I figure that once there's a resprout (mostly privet), I'll run over everything with a 2-4d glyphosate combo.

I fully intend to dig the house pad up and put proper dirt/clay, so those types of issues wont happen. The yard will just have to be hit with roundup prior to hydroseeding

I'm assuming you mean mulching the yard as opposed to bulldozing? Bulldozer will be there already for the pad right? Moving machinery is expensive.

If you only mulch, it won't be level. It may seem level to you already but its not compared to dozing it.

ETA: Also some things like Palmettos you can mulch and they will come right back.

Just mulching it to clear all the trees. It is a heavily wooded lot. Mulch for yard, bulldozer and backhoe for house pad/road.

bulldozing will have to be done after mulching it

I mulched my backyard and it still has small roots, stumps at the surface level. If I was doing a house and lawn and clear it.

We’ll pray for me then. Started with the mulching then hope to grade it for house and yard

That's the difference for me it sounds like. I have no interest in grass except for the immediate area around my house. I want to maintain the trees throughout the rest of my property, and the overstory is so thick that I think I'd have a hard time getting grass to grow. Thus, mulching.

What I do is my “cultivated forest floor.”

Clear, then keep maintaining all year. Some stuff grows, but I keep it maintained with trimmers/brush hogs/professional help if needed.

I did the mulching on my raw wooded land first. Looks awesome if done correctly and gave me visibility to see exactly where I want my house and pond and keeping all my nice trees. Just finishing my pond and used the dirt for my driveway. These dam cold fronts/rain aren't allowing me to spread my muck dirt like I would like has been the problem however the pond is a filling!

I had it done about a month ago. My need was only three hours worth but that covered a lot of area. $150/hour

It would make a lot more sense to bulldoze first and then what is left that you want open, to mulch OP. Not the other way around

Forest mulching is what I had done as well. Worth every penny @ $150/hour
