Anyone installed a TV mount on brick exterior? Any preferred/recommended brands?

Any mount should work. You'll just need masonry fastners rather than the ones provided.

Any brand. I like the red head concrete screws.

Most mounts come with a variety of fasteners including ones for masonry.

I bought blue masonary screws from Lowe’s. You pre drill a hole in the brick. Echogear was the brand of mount and it’s been holding up for 5 years. Paid around $70 for it.

Is there any danger of cracking the brick while predilling?

Yes, depending on what you use.

Two schools of thought on this.

1) Generally either use a screw type anchor (tapcon, plastic anchor, etc) in the brick.

2) use lag shields and lag bolts in the mortar joint.

I like option #2 because you cant crack the brick and tap cons are hit or miss especially if the brick have cores.

Lag shields can go full depth of the brick veneer and in my experience are what you should use for something heavier. You’ll know right away if they are holding tight enough when you bottom out the lag bolt.

Hope this helps.

Thanks but I’m assuming all the holes for the mounting bracket won’t land on the mortar. You can try and locate the mounting bracket to maximize the number of holes in the mortar but I’m assuming some holes would have to be in brick.

ditto Echogear. They are great mounts. All hardware included whether its studs or brick. You'll just need to get a masonry bit. Mounting to the brick is easier than studs in my opinion.

There is always a risk but if done right you will be good. I looked at my screws and it was tapcon. It explains exactly what size drill bit you need…that’s the key. I have a 50” TV hanging and 0 cracked bricks, Try a couple of YouTube videos if you are nervous.

You can usually line it up to get 4 wedge anchors in the mortar. Top row of holes on a horizontal mortar joint, bottom holes select a pair that fall on a vertical joint. The screws don’t need to be in same spot top/bottom.

I’ve installed quite a few in brick. I found the wedge or sleeve anchors work way better than tapcon screws.

Plus one on the wedge anchors.

My beef with tapcons is they are pretty finicky depending on the hardness of the brick and whether or not you used a masonry bit or a rotary hammer to drill the hole. It seems like they hold fast or just strip out the hole when tightening and there is no rhyme or reason why.

I just don’t trust them for anything heavy.

Let us know how it comes out OP.

exactly, frick tapcons. Wedge anchors for the win. I have installed 3 in brick now, will always go with wedge anchors.

I have a single arm, pivoting, swinging, tilting, up and downing.. mount that costed about $15 on the line and it's been solid. I was concerned with how strong the small masonry fasteners would be and my dad responded by hanging on it for a few seconds. It didn't budge.
