Having a firepit put in among other things in the backyard. Last piece is to get a price for the gas line. Pool heater is 14 feet away. Estimate to T off of that run gas line underground to Firepit area and put in a shutoff there by the pit is $1300. Seems absurdly high to me. Am I wrong?

Home Depot Gas line kit

Home Depot Tee

Seems high...Gives you an idea of material cost....

If you can....Do it yourself.

Yes.

That is one of the most basic diy jobs you can do. Do it yourself. You can leak test the line and everything yourself (although I would probably plumb it, kick the gas on, and check for leaks quickly).

A plumber is going to charge your left nut anytime gas is involved because they know 80% of people won't even try to diy just because it's dealing with gas.

If the run had to be inside a wall/inside your attic I would understand your trepidation. Since it's all outside and underground... DIY.

Look for code depth requirements and start digging.

Just wrote a check for this two days ago. Ran gas line for pool heater, about 10 feet then T off for fire pit that was probably about 15 feet further. My plumber charged me $40/hr for two people plus materials. Cost was $900. He told me most companies charge anywhere from $25-$40 a foot just to dig the line.

Welcome to plumbers fees. That’s what they charge.

Just an update. Not ready to DIY it yet. So getting a few more estimates. Yesterday was given a $4500 estimate!
Can't wait for today's.
